William John Henry Durham was born in Decatur County, Georgia, on 19 Jul 1844 and died 22 Jun 1930. "Uncle Bill" was the son of Wesley Durham and Mary S. Cassels or Castle, and the grandson of John Durham and Penelope.
William John Henry Durham and his father enlisted in Co. K, 1st Reg, 1st Brigade, GA State Troops. Private Durham enlisted on 08 Oct 1861 and his father, fearing he was too young at 17 to go to war alone, enlisted on 26 Oct 1861. They mustered out 08 Apr 1862 and re-enlisted in Co. A, 59th Reg, on 03 May 1862. William John Henry surrendered at Appomattox, Virginia on 09 Apr 1865 and returned to Decatur County to marry twice and have a family of 14 children. He married Dicy Brown and the following children were born:
