Littleton Hooten
This is the story of Littleton Hooten of Rockdale, AL. He enlisted at the age of 41 and served in the Alabama 22nd Infantry Regiment.

Before the War
Formation of the Alabama 22nd Infantry Regiment
Littleton went to Montgomery in November of 1861 and joined the Alabama 22nd Infantry Regiment, Company G.

Gladden's Brigade

Shiloh, Tennessee
Littleton was wounded at Shiloh. Following the battle he returned home to recuperate, rejoining his regiment in time for the battle of Murfreesboro.
Deas Brigade
Following Gladden's death at Shiloh the brigade was commanded by Zachariah Deas.

Murfreesboro, Tennessee
Following the Battle of Murfreesboro, the 22nd wintered in Central Tennessee, seeing little action until the start of the Tullahoma Campaign in June. Littleton received a pass home in late January, learning that his wife was expecting in March. 'Lit' was born Oct. 23, 1863 while Littleton was camped near Dalton, GA.

Following this battle the 22nd went into Winter camp 2 milies north of Dalton, GA. By January 1864, General Deas assumed division command, although a promotion to Major General did not materialize. Deas led his brigade in the Atlanta Campaign, although Col. George D. Johnston who received a promotion to Brigadier General following the Battle of Decatur, led the brigade in many of the battles.

Littleton was in the hospital at Goldsboro, NC at the end of the war. We do not know whether he was wounded at Bentonville, or like Gen. Deas was ill from the harsh winter and extreme stress of the past few months.
